Job summary

GPK Group in Hallam, VIC is seeking a Software Developer to evolve our point-of-sale, inventory and ERP platform for supermarket and retail clients. You will convert an existing application into a new platform and help deliver version 2 of our iOS app, using AI tools like Claude Code to accelerate delivery.

You’ll work with React and C#, with a small, distributed team across Melbourne and beyond, and occasional hardware tasks such as configuring checkouts.

Qualifications

• HANDS-ON experience using AI coding tools like Claude or GitHub Copilot in regular development work.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an outcomes focus.
• Clear communication with stakeholders and distributed teams.
• Willingness to handle occasional hardware/support tasks outside pure development work.
• Ability to work independently within a small, senior team.
• Mobile development experience across iOS/Android, ideally Flutter/Dart.

Responsibilities

• Develop front-end, mobile (iOS and Android) and back-end apps using modern frameworks.
• Use AI tools to generate, iterate and refine code for production quality.
• Build and maintain secure, scalable RESTful APIs.

About the Opportunity

We’re looking for a Software Developer to join our retail technology team in Hallam , VIC working closely with our Head of Retail on the next evolution of GPK's point-of-sale, inventory and ERP platform for our supermarket and retail clients.

This isn’t a sit-and-code-all-day role. You’ll be converting an existing application into a new platform under a tight delivery timeframe, building out version 2 of our iOS app (already fully specced and ready to go), and helping bring our older core application up to a consistent modern standard. AI tools, Claude Code in particular, are central to how we work, and you’ll be expected to use them fluently to accelerate delivery, not just permitted to.

You’ll work primarily in React and C#, with day-to-day autonomy but close collaboration with our Head of Retail and a small, distributed team of developers based across Melbourne, Perth and other locations. From time to time, you’ll also lend a hand with onsite or in-office hardware tasks, configuring self-serve checkouts and point-of-sale hardware, and pitch in on support tickets alongside the rest of the team. It’s a genuine all-rounder position for someone who wants more than a narrow developer brief.

Responsibilities

• Developing and maintaining front-end, mobile (iOS and Android) and back-end applications using modern frameworks

• Applying SQL Server database design best practice, including schema design and optimisation
• Integrating third-party systems and services into retail platforms
• Testing and QA'ing development work prior to handover and deployment
• Assisting with onsite and in-office hardware configuration and installation as needed
• Supporting and resolving customer tickets in collaboration with the wider team
• Identifying opportunities to automate repetitive development and support tasks

About You

To succeed in this role, you’ll have:

• Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (such as Claude or GitHub Copilot) as part of your regular development workflow
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an outcome-focused approach to delivery
• Confident, clear communication skills, with the ability to liaise easily with stakeholders and a geographically distributed team
• A can-do attitude and willingness to get hands-on with occasional hardware or support tasks outside pure development work
• The ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a small, senior team
• Mobile development experience across iOS and Android, ideally with Flutter/Dart
• Experience with Apple App Store and/or Google Play publishing processes
• Background in retail, supermarket or point-of-sale systems, or an understanding of accounting principles
• Exposure to Azure or other cloud deployment environments
