Data Processors is seeking a Full-Stack Software Developer to design, build and support reliable data‑centric applications in Melbourne. You will work across backend services, APIs and data stores, focusing on accuracy, security, observability and performance.

The role offers remote work or from our Southbank office with core hours 10am–4pm and 38 hours per week, including an onboarding period and on‑call duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience building distributed, event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, Pulsar etc.).
• Strong Python for backend services, data processing or automation.
• Experience designing and consuming APIs (REST, WebSocket) and integrating frontend and backend.
• Practical SQL skills with relational databases; exposure to Oracle SQL/PLSQL is helpful.

Job description

We are seeking a Full-Stack Software Developer to help design, build and support reliable applications that ingest, validate, transform and distribute large volumes of real-time data to internal and external users. You will work across backend services, APIs, data stores and user-facing tools, with a focus on accuracy, security, observability, performance and maintainability.

Applicants must have unrestricted rights to work in Australia indefinitely and be available to start work in Melbourne within 4-8 weeks. This role does not offer visa sponsorship or relocation reimbursement now nor in the future.

WORK HOURS & LOCATION:

This is a full-time position of 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with core collaboration hours of 10am to 4pm. Employees may work remotely or from our Southbank office. During the three-month probation period, regular office attendance will be required to support onboarding and collaboration with the team.

The role participates in an out-of-hours support roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, approximately one week in every four to five weeks. An on-call allowance applies, and time in lieu for hours worked while on call may be taken as agreed with the Team Leader.

WHAT WILL HELP YOU SUCCEED:

We are interested in practical capability, transferable experience and your approach to solving problems. Experience may have been gained through employment, study, open-source work or personal projects.

Experience building or supporting distributed, event-driven systems using technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, Pulsar or similar.

Understanding of asynchronous programming, distributed messaging, APIs and event-driven architectures.

Must have strong Python skills for backend services, data processing or automation.

Experience designing and consuming APIs, such as REST, WebSocket or similar interfaces, and integrating frontend and backend components.

Practical SQL skills and experience working with relational databases. Oracle SQL or PL/SQL experience is helpful but not essential.

Experience working with large or complex data sets, including efficient querying, transformation, validation and troubleshooting. Exposure to MongoDB, Redis, ClickHouse or similar technologies is advantageous.

Experience using containers for software delivery, such as Docker.

Experience with version control and automated software delivery, such as Git and CI/CD tools. We value experience with automated testing, code review and maintainable development practices.

Ability to analyse technical problems using evidence, data and structured reasoning.

Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to people with different levels of technical knowledge.

A collaborative approach, with the ability to contribute within a team and work independently when required.

Attention to data quality and system behaviour, with a practical approach to identifying, explaining and resolving issues.
