Job summary

WSP in Sydney seeks an ITS and Traffic Signal Designer to join our Planning & Mobility team. You will develop traffic signal and ITS designs for transport infrastructure projects, prepare drawings and documentation, and support TfNSW plans from concept to implementation.

Ideal candidates have 3–10 years in TCS, exposure to ITS and related transport tech, experience with AutoCAD/ProjectWise, and strong communication skills to engage stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechatronic, Transport or related Engineering discipline.
• Approximately 3-10 years' experience in Traffic Control Signals (TCS), with exposure to ITS, transport technology or traffic engineering desirable.
• Demonstrated experience with traffic signal design and operation, ideally including SCATS.
• Knowledge of TfNSW traffic signals standards, specifications and guidelines, and relevant Australian Standards.
• Experience using AutoCAD, ProjectWise or design software.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
• A collaborative mindset and desire to learn from experienced industry leaders.

Responsibilities

• Develop traffic signal and ITS designs for transport infrastructure projects.
• Prepare technical drawings, specifications and design documentation.
• Support the delivery of TfNSW traffic signal plans, charts and cableway drawings.
• Contribute to the planning and integration of ITS technologies, communications networks and smart mobility solutions.
• Work closely with transport planners, traffic engineers, road designers and digital specialists as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
• Assist with technical reporting, client deliverables and project coordination.
• Support project delivery from concept through to detailed design and implementation.
