Job summary

Austral Resources in Queensland's Northwest is seeking a practical Site Services Technician to support water system optimisation at the Mt Kelly Operations (Lady Annie mine), about 120km north-northwest of Mount Isa.

You will work in a hands-on team, maintaining dewatering and transfer systems, complying with safety and environmental controls, and operating with minimal supervision in remote, hot mine site conditions.

Qualifications

• Mining dewatering and pump operation experience preferred.
• Ability to assess and report environmental risks and hazards.
• Proven ability to work safely in remote site conditions and follow procedures.
• Current manual driver's license (open) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain site dewatering systems, transfer pumps, pipelines, generators, valves, fittings and infrastructure.
• Perform routine pump inspections and maintenance (poly welding, pipe cutting, flange work, field repairs).
• Monitor water levels and control transfer between pits, ponds, tanks and processing areas.
• Identify risks, participate in risk assessments and hazard identification.
• Record daily dewatering activities to support production priorities and compliance.

About the Role

Our Mt Kelly Operations (Lady Annie mine), located approximately 120km north-northwest of Mount Isa, has been an operational copper mine for over 10 years. We are seeking a practical, safety-focused and self-motivated Site Services Technician to support water system optimisation on site.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Site Services Superintendent, you will have a hands‑on role, working in a team to ensure water is effectively controlled, transferred and managed.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain site dewatering systems, transfer pumps, pipelines, generators, valves, fittings and associated infrastructure.

Perform routine pump inspections and maintenance including poly welding, pipe cutting, flange work, coupling installation and field pipeline repairs.

Identify and report environmental risks, participate in risk assessments and hazard identification.

Record daily dewatering activities and observations supporting production priorities and compliance obligations

Monitor water levels and control transfer activities between pits, ponds, tanks, dams, heap leach infrastructure and processing areas.

Follow site procedures, safety requirements, and environmental controls.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking individual who works well in a team, takes pride in their work, and is committed to maintaining a safe working environment.

Previous experience in mine dewatering, pump operations, water transfer, mining infrastructure or field maintenance.

Proven ability to fault‑find common pump and pipeline issues.

An understanding of field‑based risk management assessment principals and a proactive approach to identifying hazards.

Ability to work independently, prioritising tasks with minimal supervision.

Able to work in remote, hot, dusty and physically demanding mine site conditions.

Current manual driver’s licence (open).

Highly regarded but not essential:

Poly welding ticket or demonstrated HDPE pipe repair experience.

Loader, excavator, skid steer, telehandler or other mobile equipment competencies.

Pump, diesel engine or mechanical fitting knowledge.
