Job summary

Austral Resources is seeking a Production Pit Technician for our Mt Kelly Operations, located about 120km north-northwest of Mount Isa. The role involves supporting day-to-day grade control and mine production activities across multiple assets.

Reporting to Mine Geologist, you will perform field sampling, data entry, and equipment maintenance while ensuring safety and accurate records in a remote area. FIFO/DIDO options available.

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate to safety standards set and mitigate risk.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good comprehension skills to follow written SOPs and verbal instruction.
  • Strong attention to detail and meticulous data recording habits.
  • Proactive team player with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Able to work in a small team in a remote area.
  • Possess basic computer skills and ability to use basic Microsoft Office software.
  • Full working rights in Australia.
  • The ability to pass a Drug & Alcohol test.
  • Highly regarded but not essential: familiarity with safe operating practices in mining; previous mining or exploration experience; familiarity with sampling, QA/QC and despatch; familiarity with core mark-up/core cutting; a first aid certificate; forklift licence.

Responsibilities

  • Follow supervision from Technical Services Manager, Geologists, Engineers and Surveyors to carry out site support tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Perform field-based geological sampling and basic logging in active mining pits.
  • Mark up ore shapes in the pit.
  • Sample dispatch and reporting.
  • Ensure accurate and timely collection and entry of geological data into company registers and spreadsheets.
  • Keep vehicles and work areas tidy and efficiently organised for operational activities.
  • Maintain sampling equipment and materials.
  • Pre-emptively communicate to prepare upcoming work areas for activities.

About the Role

Our Mt Kelly Operations (Lady Annie mine), located approximately 120km north-northwest of Mount Isa, has been an operational copper mine for over 10 years. We are currently seeking skilled and safety-focused Production Pit Technician to join our team and contribute to the growing success of our processing operations.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Mine Geologist, theProduction Pit Technicianperforms a hands-on role to support day to day grade control and mine production activities within multiple Austral Resources open cut assets.
