Job summary

Site Engineer - Civil Engineering / Piling / Reinforced Concrete project is based in Brighton, East Sussex. The role requires setting out, piling and RC works with strong CAD capability and on-site surveying skills. Immediate start for a long-term freelance engagement.

You will support the site team with drawing interpretation, QA checks and coordination with the design team to maintain programme requirements and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Strong CAD capability and interpretation of drawings.

Responsibilities

• Carry out setting out for civil works, including piling and RC.

Job Description

We are urgently seeking an experienced Site Engineer for a long-term civil engineering project in Brighton, East Sussex.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer with experience in setting out, piling and reinforced concrete works. The successful candidate will support the site team in delivering complex engineering operations, ensuring accuracy, quality and compliance with project specifications.

Strong CAD capability is essential, alongside practical site engineering experience and the ability to interpret and amend technical drawings.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out setting out for civil engineering and structural works, including piling and reinforced concrete.
• Establish and maintain site control points, benchmarks and survey references.
• Interpret construction drawings, specifications and engineering information.
• Undertake dimensional checks, level surveys, as-built surveys and quality inspections.
• Provide engineering support for piling operations, including pile positions, coordinates, levels and tolerances.
• Support reinforced concrete works, including foundations, pile caps, ground beams and associated structural elements where applicable.
• Check reinforcement details, formwork dimensions and concrete levels against approved drawings.
• Assist with pre-pour inspections and ensure quality checks are completed.
• Use CAD software to review, interpret and amend engineering drawings.
• Produce setting-out information, working drawings and as-built documentation as required.
• Identify drawing discrepancies and raise technical queries with the design team.
• Maintain accurate site records, survey data and quality documentation.
• Ensure works comply with approved drawings, specifications and inspection and test plans.
• Work closely with site management, subcontractors and the wider project team to coordinate activities and maintain programme requirements.
• Promote a strong health and safety culture and ensure compliance with site procedures, risk assessments and method statements.
• Proven experience as a Site Engineer within civil engineering, infrastructure or structural construction.
• Strong setting-out experience using total stations, GPS and relevant surveying equipment.
• Demonstrable experience in piling and reinforced concrete works.
• Strong CAD skills, including the ability to review and amend technical drawings.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and construction specifications.
• Good understanding of quality assurance, construction tolerances and inspection procedures.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• A proactive approach to health, safety and quality.
• Relevant engineering qualifications or equivalent practical experience.
• Appropriate CSCS card.
• Experience on complex civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
• Experience working in constrained urban environments.
• Understanding of temporary works interfaces and construction sequencing.
• Experience preparing as-built drawings and maintaining quality records.
