Job summary

ARTC is seeking an experienced Signals Engineer to manage inspection, testing, maintenance and minor renewals of signalling infrastructure to ensure operational availability and safety.

You will provide technical guidance, perform asset inspections, analyze fault data, support incidents, and contribute to maintenance planning and documentation. The role requires engineering qualifications, strong safety focus, and the ability to lead teams across multi-state networks.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering and/or relevant industry experience with Signals competency.
  • Drivers Licence Class C.
  • Strong knowledge of signalling infrastructure and safety standards.
  • Proven problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in safety management and commercial awareness.
  • Familiarity with railway Code of Practice and WHS principles.
  • Eligible for professional membership (Engineers or IRSE).
  • Extensive experience in signalling maintenance management and projects.
  • Strong communication and staff leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to signalling projects and maintenance teams.
  • Inspect, test and maintain signalling equipment per plans and standards.
  • Diagnose faults and support incident response to minimise disruption.
  • Analyse event reports and fault data to address recurrent issues.
  • Provide engineering assurance for safe and compliant maintenance.
  • Monitor preventative maintenance to reduce failures.
  • Lead root cause investigations and document findings.
  • Prepare detailed engineering docs, test plans and reports.
  • Assist with installation, testing, commissioning of new gear.
  • Participate in design reviews for maintainability and safety.
  • Develop and support maintenance metrics and AMP planning.
  • Attend major incidents per ARTC plans and close corrective actions.
