Job summary

Qube Bulk in Queensland seeks an experienced SHS Advisor to develop and oversee health, safety and compliance programs for transportation of Dangerous Goods. You will ensure adherence to regulations, including hazardous materials transport, and partner with drivers and operations to promote safety culture.

The role covers risk assessments, procedures, incident investigations, and SHS audits, with focus on continuous improvement and national information sharing.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in mining or heavy transport with NHVR knowledge.
• Previous SHS role experience and understanding of safety within heavy transport.
• Safety qualification from a tertiary institution (Cert IV WHS).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to develop site risk assessments and SHS documentation.
• Proven ability to develop tactical and strategic safety plans.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and common office tools.
• Familiar with SHS reporting systems such as Quartex, SAP, Flex.

Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct incident investigations and prepare reports.
• Conduct site SHS audits and compliance inspections.

• Identify and implement SHS initiatives to improve safety.
• Attend client meetings and provide SHS advice as required.
• Coordinate with management site KPIs and reviews.
• Liaise with National SHS teams for continuous improvement.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced & enthusiastic SHS Advisor to join the well-established Qube team in Queensland. This position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing health, safety, and compliance programs specific to the transportation of Dangerous Goods. This role ensures adherence to all relevant regulations, including hazardous materials transport regulations, occupational health and safety standards, and environmental requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with drivers, operations staff, and management to promote a culture of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance and continuity of the risk assessment of the scope of operations, including mining operations, working environment, current work practices and procedures
• Assist site personnel in the development of site and task specific risk assessments, operational procedures and work instruction and conduct ongoing reviews of the effectiveness and compliance to risk control measures.
• Lead and conduct incident investigations, including the preparation of the investigation report.
• Conduct site compliance inspections and SHS audits.
• Assist in the management of Workers Compensation claims and Rehabilitation Plans/Programs
• Provide immediate support for incident investigations, hazard management and follow-up on closeout actions
• Identify and implement effective SHS initiatives
• Attend client meetings and provide technical and SHS Advice as required.
• Coordinate with Management site KPI’s, Quarterly Management Reviews, Weekly Safety call etc.
• Liaise between National SHS Team and site for continuous improvement and sharing of national information and requirements.

Qualification & Experience

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in mining or heavy transport industry with working knowledge of the requirements under the NHVR
• Previous industry specific experience in a Health & Safety role
• Safety or related qualification from a tertiary institution (Minimum Cert IV WHS)
• A thorough understanding of safety within heavy transport industry
• Ability to undertake site risk assessments and assist in the development of SHS documentation.
• Ability to develop tactical and strategic plans to address safety issues.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• A good working knowledge of Microsoft word applications
• Understanding of System based SHS Management Reporting Systems such as (Quartex, SAP, Flex etc)
