Job summary

BGIS is seeking a Shift Technician – Electrical for a full-time, on-site role in Southport, Queensland. You will perform planned and reactive electrical maintenance across hospital-grade infrastructure, ensuring safety, reliability and compliance.

The successful candidate will mentor apprentices and collaborate with BGIS teams, subcontractors and stakeholders. The position requires a Certificate III in Electrotechnology, White Card and EWP licence, plus HV switching certification.

Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology (or equivalent).
  • Current White Card and EWP licence.
  • Experience in electrical maintenance, including exposure to high voltage environments.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Ability to work with digital systems and maintenance platforms.
  • High Voltage Switching Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Execute planned preventative and reactive electrical maintenance across a diverse range of systems, including emergency lighting, switchboards, protection systems and high-voltage infrastructure.
  • Operate, maintain and optimise critical plant and essential facility infrastructure to ensure maximum reliability and operational continuity.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and rectify faults on critical electrical and building systems with a strong focus on minimising downtime.
  • Manage and complete work orders within agreed service levels, utilising BGIS maintenance management and reporting systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to apprentices while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary maintenance teams.
  • Coordinate and monitor specialist contractors as required.
  • Perform high voltage switching operations and support the maintenance and operation of site generation, distribution and auxiliary plant equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, technical documentation and compliance reporting in accordance with WHSE requirements and BGIS procedures.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, site stakeholders, suppliers and internal teams to support service excellence.
  • Contribute to the delivery of critical facility operations by responding effectively to emergencies, outages and plant-related incidents.

Purpose of the Role

BGIS is seeking an experienced Shift Technician – Electrical to support the delivery of planned and reactive electrical maintenance within a large, complex healthcare environment.

Reporting directly to the Electrical Team Leader, you will work closely with BGIS teams, subcontractors, and site stakeholders to ensure critical electrical systems operate safely, reliably, and in line with compliance requirements. Your work will support essential infrastructure that enables continuous care and operations within a major hospital setting.

The ideal candidate will be adaptable, detail-focused, and collaborative, with a strong commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and supporting others within the team.

Key Responsibilities

Education, Experience & Skills
  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology (or equivalent).
  • Current White Card and EWP licence.
  • Experience in electrical maintenance, including exposure to high voltage environments.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Ability to work with digital systems and maintenance platforms.
  • High Voltage Switching Certification
  • Experience mentoring apprentices or supporting team development.
  • Exposure to healthcare or other critical environments.
  • Broad understanding of related trades such as mechanical, plumbing, or refrigeration.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and working within facilities teams.
Workplace Flexibility

This role is based full-time on-site in Southport, within a major healthcare campus.

You will work a structured rotating shift roster averaging 42 hours per week, designed to provide balanced time on and off site.

Shift Pattern:
  • 3 x 12-hour night shifts
  • 4 days off
  • 6 days off
  • 4 x 12-hour night shifts
  • 4 days off (ongoing cycle)
