Job summary

SWA Water Australia is hiring a Sheet Metal Fabricator / Stainless Steel Welder to join our Glasgow? No, Sydney area team. The role focuses on fabricating and assembling water and wastewater equipment, mainly stainless tanks and carbon steel structures.

You will read drawings, fabricate to spec, and perform tack welding with MIG/TIG. Occasional site work may be required, with a strong emphasis on workmanship and safety in a modern workshop.

Qualifications

• Experience in sheet metal fabrication.
• Ability to read and understand fabrication/engineering drawings.
• Practical experience with stainless steel and carbon steel.
• Basic welding skills including tack welding.
• Ability to use common electrical hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Reading and interpreting fabrication and engineering drawings.
• Stainless steel and carbon steel sheet metal fabrication.
• Cutting, folding, fitting and assembly of components.
• Basic MIG/TIG tack welding.
• Operating guillotines and brake presses.
• Using electrical hand tools and workshop equipment.
• Ensuring high workmanship and finish quality.
• Working safely and keeping a clean workshop.
• Assisting with equipment assembly and other fabrication tasks.
• Occasional site work and interstate travel may be required.

Sheet Metal Fabricator / Stainless Steel Welder

This is a permanent full-time position with an immediate start. You will be involved in the fabrication and assembly of water and wastewater treatment equipment, working primarily with stainless steel tanks and carbon steel structure.

Key responsibilities

• Reading and interpreting fabrication and engineering drawings
• Stainless steel and carbon steel sheet metal fabrication
• Cutting, folding, fitting and assembly of fabricated components
• Basic MIG/TIG tack welding
• Operating guillotines and brake presses
• Using electrical hand tools and workshop equipment
• Ensuring a high standard of workmanship and finish
• Working safely and maintaining a clean and organised workshop
• Assisting with equipment assembly and other fabrication activities as required
• Occasional site work and interstate travel may be required

About you

• Previous experience in sheet metal fabrication
• Ability to read and understand fabrication/engineering drawings
• Practical experience working with stainless steel and carbon steel
• Basic welding skills, including tack welding
• Ability to use common electrical hand tools
• Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship
• Reliable, responsible and able to work effectively as part of a team
• Experience operating a guillotine and brake press (highly desirable)
• Stainless steel welding/fabrication experience (highly desirable)
