Job summary

Sandvik Mining in Mackay, QLD, is seeking two Workshop Service Technicians. You will diagnose, maintain, repair and overhaul Sandvik mobile mining equipment, and inspect/rebuild major components. The role requires a valid Mechanical Trade Certification, C-class license, and a strong safety mindset.

The team operates on a 4/3 roster with comprehensive training and career support. Underground loaders or drill equipment experience is valued.

Qualifications

  • Requires Australian recognised Mechanical Trade Certification and a valid C class driver’s license.
  • Experience on underground loaders and drill equipment is advantageous.
  • Must have strong safety culture and good communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, repairs, fault finding, and overhauls on Sandvik mining equipment (Position 1).
  • Carry out component inspections, overhauls, rebuilds, assembly, and testing to OEM standards (Position 2).
  • Maintain records of parts usage, equipment monitoring and time logs.
  • Ensure safety policies and Environmental Health and Safety standards are followed.

About The Opportunity

We have two exciting opportunities for a qualified local Workshop Service Technician to join our growing Mackay branch.

We’re looking for a proactive and skilled professional to carry out efficient diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on our cutting-edge mobile equipment used in the mining and construction industries.

Position 1 Focus: Diagnostics, maintenance, repairs, and machine overhauls/rebuilds of Sandvik mobile mining equipment.

Position 2 Focus: Component inspections, overhauls, rebuilds, and testing of major equipment components.

Your efforts will drive success by helping our customers achieve their operational goals, expanding our customer base, and growing our support team. To support you, we offer comprehensive product training to keep you at the top of your game, along with dedicated support from our expert product support personnel.

Roster: Our Mackay team are transitioning to a 4/3 roster to better support employee wellbeing and promote a healthier work-life balance. This roster provides more quality time away from work while maintaining safe and efficient operational performance.

Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, repairs, fault finding, and machine overhauls/rebuilds on Sandvik mining equipment (Position 1).
  • Carry out component inspections, overhauls, rebuilds, assembly, and testing activities to OEM standards (Position 2).
  • Take charge of mechanical duties, performing maintenance, repairs, and fault diagnosis on all Sandvik Mining equipment.
  • Execute mechanical maintenance tasks according to plans, ensuring equipment integrity and safe operation at all times.
  • Drive efficiency by providing insightful feedback for maintenance planning improvements.
  • Keep meticulous records of parts usage, equipment monitoring, and time logs.
  • Champion safety by adhering to all policies and procedures, especially Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies.
About You

We are looking for a Mackay local resident with an Australian recognised Mechanical Trade Certification.

Demonstrated experience working on underground loaders is ideal but not mandatory (rather than) essential, experience on drill equipment highly regarded also. Exposure to underground trucks will be advantageous but is not a key requirement for the role. You should have a strong and proven safety culture, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong customer service focus. Your motivation and determination to achieve targets and goals, along with a proactive, self-motivated attitude and the ability to take initiative, are essential.

Basic computer literacy and a Class C Manual Driver’s License are required. Additionally, you must be able to supply references upon request for pre-employment reference checks, police checks, and regular onsite drug and alcohol testing.
