Job summary

Sandvik Mining in Mt Isa is seeking a Workshop Service Technician – Leading Hand to maintain and repair our mining equipment. You will diagnose faults, perform servicing, and lead a small team to ensure daily work is completed safely and efficiently.

You will coordinate tasks, mentor teammates, and uphold Sandvik safety standards while delivering high-quality service and reliability for our customers in the mining sector.

Qualifications

  • Australian recognised Mechanical or Auto Electrical Trade Certification required.
  • Experience with Sandvik trucks, loaders and drilling mobile mining equipment is a plus.
  • Strong safety culture and leadership experience are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general mechanical and auto electrical duties including maintenance, repairs and fault diagnosis on Sandvik Mining equipment.
  • Carry out maintenance tasks according to plans to ensure safe operation and equipment reliability.
  • Provide feedback to improve maintenance planning and efficiency.
  • Keep accurate records of parts usage, monitoring, and time logs.
  • Adhere to all policies and EHS requirements.

Workshop Service Technician – Leading Hand (Mt Isa)

About The Opportunity

We have a great opportunity for an experienced Service Technician - Leading Hand to join our workshop in Mt Isa, QLD. In this role, you’ll help keep our customers’ equipment running smoothly by carrying out diagnostics, maintenance, rebuilds, and repairs on our modern mining and construction machinery.

As a Leading Hand, you’ll also support the team by sharing your knowledge, helping coordinate daily work, and ensuring jobs are completed safely and to a high standard. You’ll be the go-to person for equipment performance, helping improve reliability and productivity for our customers.

To support you, we provide full product training and ongoing help from our expert product support team.

Responsibilities

As a Service Technician, you will be:

  • Conducting general mechanical and auto electrical duties, including maintenance, repairs, and fault diagnosis on all Sandvik Mining equipment.
  • Executing mechanical and auto electrical maintenance tasks according to maintenance plans, ensuring the integrity and safe operation of the equipment.
  • Offering valuable feedback to enhance maintenance planning and efficiency.
  • Keeping meticulous records of parts usage, equipment monitoring, and time logs.
  • Strictly adhering to all policies and procedures, with a strong emphasis on EHS policies.

In addition to the Service Technician responsibilities, a Leading Hand will coordinate the following:

  • Assistin conducting daily resource planning to contribute to the smooth and effective running of each shift in line with KPI’s, business requirements and operationalneeds
  • Evaluate the quality of work of the team to ensure efficiency and equipmentintegrity
  • Provide relevant feedback to enable maintenance planning improvements in terms of efficiency and equipmentintegrity
  • Assist the Workshop Supervisor to mentor, motivate, train & evaluate and whenrequired, performance manage team members toaccomplishtheir goals andobjectivesas well as meeting the businessneeds
  • Support and conduct team meetings and communications asdirected
  • Record keeping of parts usage, equipment monitoring, timerecords.
About You

We are looking for someone based near Orange, NSW with an Australian recognized Mechanical or Auto Electrical Trade Certification. Your demonstrated experience with Sandvik trucks, loaders, and drilling mobile mining equipment will be a distinct advantage. You should have a strong and proven safety culture, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong customer service focus and most importantly, previous leadership experience. Your motivation and determination to achieve targets and goals, along with a proactive, self-motivated attitude and the ability to take initiative, are essential. Basic computer literacy and a Class C Manual Driver’s License are required.
