Job summary

Macquarie University invites an experienced work health and safety leader to head the central WHS function. You will guide the framework, systems and team, safeguarding staff, students, contractors and visitors across a busy campus including laboratories and hospital facilities.

Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, you will set the WHS strategy for the University and its entities, oversee injury management, return-to-work programs, and external provider relationships, while translating WHS

Qualifications

• Senior WHS practitioner with mature safety management systems.
• Knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, codes, standards.
• Leadership in higher education, health or science settings.
• Experience overseeing a WHS function in a large organisation.
• Capability to scale a high-performing WHS team and portfolio.
• Strong change leadership and stakeholder consultation.

Responsibilities

• Set and deliver the Group WHS strategy across the University and entities.
• Ensure due diligence and compliance with NSW WHS Act and codes.
• Lead a team of eight WHS and related specialists.
• Own WHS framework, policies, training, systems and reporting.
• Deliver cross-functional WHS programs with risk management.
• Manage WHS operating budget and governance reporting.
• Advise senior leaders on WHS matters and rehabilitation.
• Oversee injury management, workers compensation and return-to-work.
• Oversee WHS governance, regulator engagement and reporting.

Education

Relevant WHS qualifications or equivalent credentials
