Job summary

Ex Testing and Certification is seeking a hands-on Senior Testing and Certification Engineer in Newcastle‑Maitland, NSW. You will lead Ex product testing, assessments and certification, develop test plans and perform laboratory testing to applicable explosion protection standards.

The role requires a Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years in a technical field, strong analytical skills, and experience with test equipment and engineering drawings.

Qualifications

• Experience in electrical, electronic or mechanical design, manufacturing, testing, certification, commissioning or related engineering environment.
• Strong understanding of electrical, electronic and/or mechanical systems.

Senior Testing and Certification Engineer

This is a hands‑on senior technical role focused on testing, assessing and determining the compliance of electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment against applicable Explosion Protection standards and certification requirements.

Key responsibilities

Lead and undertake Ex product testing, assessment and certification

Develop test plans and conduct laboratory testing against applicable standards

Prepare technical reports, compliance assessments and certification documentation

Review product designs, drawings and technical documentation for compliance

Conduct client audits and support ExTC's quality, accreditation and certification activities

Provide technical guidance, mentoring and training to other engineers

Build and maintain strong technical relationships with customers and other industry stakeholders

Prepare estimates, quotations and monitor project costs

Support continuous improvement, maintain awareness, and contribute changes to relevant standards and certification requirements

About you

Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline

10+ years' experience in a relevant technical field

Experience in electrical, electronic or mechanical design, manufacturing, testing, certification, commissioning or a related engineering environment

Strong understanding of electrical, electronic and/or mechanical systems

Practical experience using test equipment and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation

Strong communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills

High professional integrity, sound technical judgement and strong attention to detail

Desirable: Experience in Explosion Protection, particularly Intrinsic Safety (Ex i) to IEC 60079-11 and Flameproof Enclosures (Ex d) to IEC 60079-1; familiarity with the broader IEC 60079 series, including IEC 60079-19 and AS/NZS 3800 for overhaul, repair and reclamation of Ex equipment; experience in hazard and risk assessment; IECEx or ANZEx certification experience; ISO/IEC 80079-34 or ISO 9001 auditing; CAD/design; and field service, commissioning or fault‑finding experience
