Job summary

Adica Insurance is seeking a technically strong Technical Underwriter to join our Underwriting team in Melbourne. You will act as the technical SME across underwriting governance, policy interpretation, and portfolio quality.

Reporting to the Head of Underwriting, you will mentor underwriters, draft and review policy wordings, conduct audits, and contribute to product development while partnering with Product, Risk, Legal and Claims to drive profitable outcomes in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years' underwriting experience within motor, commercial property or related insurance portfolios.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex underwriting referrals and technical underwriting matters.
• Strong experience drafting, reviewing and interpreting policy wordings and endorsements.
• Experience conducting underwriting audits, reviews or assurance activities.
• A sound understanding of underwriting governance, delegated authorities and risk management principles.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Experience mentoring and coaching underwriting professionals.
• ANZIIF qualifications (or equivalent industry accreditation).

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage complex underwriting referrals across motor and commercial portfolios.
• Provide expert technical underwriting guidance and coverage interpretation.
• Draft, review and maintain policy wordings, endorsements and product documentation.
• Conduct underwriting audits and quality assurance reviews.
• Identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities within underwriting practices.
• Support the development and maintenance of underwriting guidelines, frameworks and governance controls.
• Mentor and coach underwriters to build technical capability across the team.
• Contribute technical expertise to product development, portfolio reviews and strategic initiatives.
• Support internal and external audit activities.
• Develop strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
