Job summary

WSP Melbourne seeks a Senior Structural Engineer/Associate to lead design, delivery and tender phases for major projects across the country. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with a national multidisciplinary team to ensure quality outcomes on complex structures.

The role requires 8–12 years of post graduate experience, Australian/NZ project exposure, and strong client-facing consultancy skills with proficiency in ETABS, RAM Concept and Microstran.

Qualifications

• Bachelor to Masters in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• RPEQ qualification or near completion.
• 8–12 years post graduate industry experience.
• Commercial experience in Australia or New Zealand on building projects.
• Exposure to local sectors (transport, health, retail, defence).
• Familiar with ETABS, RAM Concept and Microstran.
• Client-facing consultancy experience with project leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, delivery and tender phases for multi-year packages.
• Ensure timely, high-quality delivery aligned with standards, schedules and budgets.
• Maintain effective client relationships and stakeholder engagement.
• Provide technical guidance and deliver on project targets with the team.

Our WSP Building Structures group is a specialist team renowned for their innovation in structural engineering and cutting-edge BIM project execution across complex building structures and infrastructure projects, with offices in each major city across Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Project lead work across the design, delivery and tender phases for multi-year/packaged work for turnkey projects;
• Ensure timely and quality of delivery for project and structural engineering work in support of relevant technical, commercial and regulatory standards - and in alignment with schedules and budgets;
• Handle ongoing communication and highly effective professional relationships with local clients;
• Manage effective stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally;
• Provide sound technical/delivery guidance for the team;
• Mentor, train and develop the careers of junior engineers;
• Partner with internal stakeholders and a collaborative, national team in a multidisciplinary engineering setting.

Experience & Skills

• Bachelor to Masters’ level degree (Civil/Structural Engineering);
• RPEQ qualified or close to completion
• Minimum 8-12 years post graduate industry experience
• Commercial experience in Australia or New Zealand on medium/large building structure engineering projects is essential.
• Exposure across a range of local building sectors, e.g., transport, health, retail, defence;
• Familiar with ETABS, RAM Concept and Microstran
• Solid consultancy experience in a client facing role with ability to lead projects
• Track record of effective cross-discipline project delivery
• Experience coaching & mentoring junior engineers across technical and project delivery aspects.
• Ability to obtain Australian Defence Force security clearance (Aus Citizenship required) would be preferred but not essential
