Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Structural Engineer (RPEQ) to provide technical leadership and deliver high-quality structural engineering solutions across a diverse range of industrial projects.

This is a hands-on senior engineering position requiring strong technical capability, practical problem-solving skills and the ability to work directly with clients to develop innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions.

The successful candidate will take ownership of structural engineering deliverables, provide RPEQ certification, mentor engineering personnel and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout the complete project lifecycle.

The role offers the opportunity to work across structural steelwork, industrial equipment, support structures, materials handling systems, access platforms and modifications to existing industrial facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design, analysis and verification of industrial structures, structural steelwork, equipment support frames, platforms and materials handling infrastructure.
• Undertake detailed engineering calculations, structural analysis and design verification in accordance with applicable Australian Standards and regulatory requirements.
• Provide RPEQ certification, engineering endorsement and final technical approval for structural designs within the engineer’s registered area of practice and professional competence.
• Design and assess structural systems subjected to static, dynamic, operational and equipment-induced loads.
• Review and approve engineering calculations, structural drawings, fabrication documentation and technical specifications.
• Undertake structural assessments of existing infrastructure, including condition inspections, load capacity verification and recommendations for repairs, modifications or strengthening.
• Develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions that consider constructability, fabrication, installation, maintenance and operational requirements.

Technical Leadership & Project Delivery

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to structural engineers, designers and drafting personnel.
• Work directly with clients to understand project requirements, develop engineering concepts and deliver tailored technical solutions.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, civil and project engineering teams to ensure integrated and coordinated designs.
• Provide structural engineering support throughout the project lifecycle, including concept development, detailed design, fabrication, installation and commissioning.
• Support tendering activities through technical input, preliminary designs, engineering estimates and scope development.
• Coordinate with project management, procurement, workshop and site delivery teams to achieve project milestones.
• Liaise with external consultants, contractors, fabricators and suppliers to resolve technical and construction-related challenges.

Resource Management

• Coordinate resources across engineering projects to achieve optimal results.
• Collaborate with internal teams to prioritise workflow.
• Coordinate with project management, procurement, workshop, logistics, and site delivery teams to ensure seamless delivery of customised solutions.
• Manage, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team, building capability and supporting career development.
• Oversee and coordinate external contractors and remote teams, including overseas engineering support.

Quality Assurance

• Ensure structural engineering activities comply with relevant Australian Standards, legislative requirements and company engineering procedures.
• Undertake and participate in technical design reviews, risk assessments and engineering verification activities.
• Maintain appropriate engineering documentation, including calculations, design reports, certification records and design verification evidence.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of engineering standards, design methodologies, documentation and quality assurance processes.
• Champion safety in design, engineering integrity and risk management throughout the project lifecycle
• Support compliance with ISO 9001 & HSEQ quality management processes and applicable workplace health and safety requirements.

Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Structural), Structural Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Current RPEQ registration in Structural Engineering, with the ability to independently certify engineering work within the relevant area of competence.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant structural engineering experience, preferably within industrial, mining, manufacturing, materials handling or infrastructure environments.
• Demonstrated experience in the design and verification of structural steelwork, industrial platforms, equipment support structures and associated infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of relevant Australian Standards, including AS 4100, AS/NZS 1170 and other applicable structural design standards.
• Proven experience in structural analysis, engineering calculations and technical design verification.
• Experience delivering structural engineering solutions from concept through detailed design and construction support.
• Strong understanding of fabrication methods, installation considerations and practical engineering design.
• Excellent technical communication, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of engineering deliverables and provide technical leadership.

Preferred:

• Experience with structural analysis software such as Space Gass, Strand7, Autodesk Robot or equivalent. (Autodesk Inventor & Vault Design Software Preferred)
• Experience with structural assessments, brownfield modifications and strengthening of existing industrial structures.
• Knowledge of equipment foundations, dynamic loading, fatigue and vibration considerations.
• Experience with multidisciplinary engineering projects and turnkey industrial project delivery.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems, safety in design and engineering risk management.
• Previous experience mentoring junior engineers and reviewing technical engineering deliverables.
