Job summary

City of Greater Geelong is seeking a Planning Officer to assess and issue permits for land use and developments, providing professional, customer-focused advice. It is a permanent full-time Band 6 position with a competitive salary.

You will investigate applications, ensure compliance with planning legislation, coordinate input from internal and external stakeholders, and represent the council in public forums and hearings.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in local government town planning.
• Ability to interpret town planning legislation and related practices.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and evaluate use and development applications.
• Analyse applications for compliance with legislation and time limits.
• Assist with issuing Planning permits to provide timely service delivery.
• Coordinate input from internal/external departments and the general public to meet deadlines.
• Represent City of Greater Geelong in public forums, legal proceedings and appeal hearings.
• Mentor student planners and junior staff as required.
• Assist the public with planning advice and information via written correspondence, over the counter and phone enquiries.
