AUSAG RURAL in Manilla NSW seeks a Senior Station Hand to lead day-to-day operations on a large-scale mixed farming enterprise. This hands-on role offers an immediate start and the chance to influence cattle or cropping activities across a diversified operation.

You will supervise staff, coordinate livestock and irrigation tasks, operate machinery, and maintain high standards of animal welfare, safety, and productivity within a supportive team.

SENIOR STATION HAND, MANILLA NSW

Take the next step into a senior hands-on role where you'll help lead a large-scale cattle and irrigated farming operation in the New England region of NSW.

Senior hands-on position with the opportunity to assist management in overseeing either the cattle or cropping division of a diverse mixed farming enterprise.

Varied day-to-day duties across livestock handling, irrigation, dryland cropping, machinery operation, maintenance and staff coordination.

Operating as part of a well-established corporate agricultural business, this property plays an important role within a larger Wagyu supply chain, backgrounding and growing out of approximately 3,500 head of cattle sourced from company breeder operations. The enterprise also includes a substantial irrigated and dryland cropping program producing fodder and grain crops including barley, hay, silage, mung beans and corn.

Located approximately 15 km from Manilla and 60 km from Tamworth, the property enjoys the lifestyle advantages of the New England region, renowned for its productive agricultural country, reliable infrastructure, sporting opportunities and strong rural communities.

Joining an existing team of five, this position is being created to bring additional senior-level experience to the operation. Reporting directly to the Property Manager, the successful applicant will assist with the supervision and coordination of either the livestock or cropping division depending on their strengths, while remaining actively involved in daily operational activities. The role will suit an experienced and practical agricultural professional who enjoys variety, takes pride in maintaining high standards and is capable of leading by example. An immediate start is available for the right person.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Assist the Property Manager with the day-to-day coordination of livestock and/or cropping operations, providing leadership and support to other staff while helping maintain productivity, efficiency and high workplace standards across the business.
• Undertake livestock husbandry activities including mustering, processing, drafting, feeding, animal health monitoring and general cattle management for approximately 3,500 head of weaner cattle, with a strong focus on animal welfare and quality assurance outcomes.
• Operate and maintain a range of agricultural machinery and equipment including tractors, front-end loaders, irrigation infrastructure and associated machinery used throughout the cropping, fodder production and cattle feeding programs.
• Participate in all aspects of irrigated and dryland crop production including ground preparation, planting, irrigation management, hay and silage production, grain harvesting and ongoing crop monitoring activities.
• Carry out general property maintenance including fencing, water infrastructure repairs, weed and pest control programs, workshop duties and other practical tasks that contribute to the efficient running of the enterprise.

Selection Criteria:

• Demonstrated experience in a similar mixed farming, livestock, cropping or broadacre agricultural role, with the ability to confidently contribute across multiple areas of the operation and support day-to-day decision making.
• Strong livestock handling skills and a genuine commitment to animal welfare, with experience working cattle in commercial production systems highly regarded.
• Proven ability to operate, maintain and troubleshoot a variety of agricultural machinery and equipment, combined with sound mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.
• A hands-on attitude, good level of physical fitness and willingness to lead by example while working productively both independently and as part of a team environment.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety, with a demonstrated understanding of safe operating procedures and a desire to contribute positively to a professional agricultural business.
