Job summary

Butt Livestock & Property seeks an experienced Overseer or Hands-on Manager for a mixed grazing and cropping property of about 1,700 acres, located between Young and Cowra in NSW. The successful applicant will manage day-to-day livestock, pastures and cropping, with a modern infrastructure including a new undercover sheep handling facility and a 4 stand shearing shed.

You will work as part of a family operation and coordinate contractors to meet targets.

Responsibilities

Job description

A position exists for an experienced Overseer or Hands-on Manager for a mixed grazing and cropping property of approx 1700 acres, located between Young & Cowra.

The mixed farming operation carries approx 2500 Merino ewes, 2800 XB lambs, alongside livestock trading opportunities when the seasons allow. Predominantly improved high protein pastures along with approx 500 – 600 acres of crop.

Owners have focused on providing good infrastructure and machinery to help support management. This includes a new Finn design undercover sheep handling facility, alongside an existing modern 4 stand raised board shearing shed, good hay and machinery shedding, a new internal lane way system and new bore.

The successful applicant will have a hands-on role with all day-to-day operations and management of the livestock, pastures & cropping.

Applicants should have previous experience with

• Sheep and cattle handling and management
• ALL the necessary day-to-day livestock welfare and husbandry duties
• Pasture and grazing management
• Crop and weed management
• Crop spraying and chemical rec’s
• Ability to communicate well and organise contractors for sowing, shearing etc
• Farm and machinery operations and general maintenance
• General farm maintenance skills including; welding, fencing and watering systems
• Ability to keep and maintain records for livestock and chemicals
• Ability to work independently towards set outcomes and timeframes
• Ability to demonstrate experience of the above-mentioned tasks
• Effective communication, planning and organisational skills
• Must be able and willing to work as part of a family operation
• Must be hardworking, energetic and pro-active to tasks
• Must implement high standards of animal welfare

Current Chemcert certificate or willingness to obtain certification

HR Truck license or willingness to obtain license

The annual salary will be based upon the applicant's experience, knowledge and proven ability.

This is a long-term position for the right applicant to work with the current owners.
