Job summary

The AgWay Recruitment is supporting a large mixed farming operation near Garah, NSW to appoint a Senior Farm Hand for a long-term, hands-on role. The successful candidate will operate a range of agricultural machinery, support cropping and livestock activities, and work independently to meet seasonal targets.

With 12,000 hectares of dryland cropping and a sheep/cattle program, this role offers 45-hour weeks, accommodation, and a pathway to greater responsibility within a substantial farming

Qualifications

  • Strong broadacre farming experience.
  • Confidence operating large agricultural machinery.
  • Experience with spraying and planting operations.
  • A full driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to work an average of approximately 45 hours per week.
  • Good mechanical awareness and the ability to carry out basic repairs and maintenance.
  • Reliable and practical approach to work.
  • Relevant work-related references.

Responsibilities

  • Operate cropping machinery for spraying, planting and other seasonal operations.
  • Assist with all aspects of crop production.
  • Operate and maintain a CASE 4430 self-propelled sprayer.
  • Operate a Hayes WEED-IT, John Deere 8320R and Fendt 1162 tracked tractor.
  • Operate NDF and BOSS planters.
  • Carry out machinery maintenance and basic repairs.
  • Assist with care and management of breeding sheep and trading cattle.
  • Mustering livestock using motorbikes, with helicopters also used when required.
  • Work independently and take responsibility for allocated jobs.
  • Assist across the wider farming operation as required.

Job description

A large mixed farming operation near Garah, New South Wales, is seeking an Senior Farm Hand to join the team long-term.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone with strong broadacre cropping experience who is confident operating large agricultural machinery, can work independently and is willing to assist across all areas of the operation.

The property includes approximately 12,000 hectares of dryland cropping, producing wheat, barley, cotton, chickpeas and sorghum. The livestock operation focuses on breeding sheep and trading cattle.

The Role Responsibilities will include:
  • Operating cropping machinery for spraying, planting and other seasonal operations
  • Assisting with all aspects of crop production
  • Operating and maintaining a CASE 4430 self-propelled sprayer
  • Operating a Hayes WEED-IT, John Deere 8320R and Fendt 1162 tracked tractor
  • Operating NDF and BOSS planters
  • Carrying out machinery maintenance and basic repairs
  • Assisting with the care and management of breeding sheep and trading cattle
  • Mustering livestock using motorbikes, with helicopters also used when required
  • Working independently and taking responsibility for allocated jobs
  • Assisting across the wider farming operation as required
About You To be considered, you will need:
  • Strong previous broadacre farming experience
  • Confidence operating large agricultural machinery
  • Experience with spraying and planting operations
  • A full driver’s licence and reliable vehicle
  • The ability to work an average of approximately 45 hours per week
  • Good mechanical awareness and the ability to carry out basic repairs and maintenance
  • A reliable and practical approach to work
  • Relevant work-related references

A truck licence would be beneficial but is not essential. The employer is open to supporting the right person to progress their licence.
