Job summary

Southern NSW Local Health District is seeking a Paediatric Speech Pathologist to join a rural, multidisciplinary team. The role focuses on assessment, therapy and early intervention for children across ages, with meaningful patient relationships and clinical autonomy.

The position offers permanent part-time hours (24 per week) with a salary in the NSW Health band, and opportunities for professional development in a supportive workplace.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary degree in speech pathology with eligibility for practicing membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Recent paediatric clinical practice with assessment and intervention for preschool and school-aged children.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy with stakeholder consultation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, time management and computer literacy; evidence-based practice.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to staff and/or students.
  • Experience in paediatric education sessions—design, delivery and evaluation.
  • Experience planning, implementing and evaluating local service delivery with quality improvement.
  • Current unrestricted driver's licence and willingness to travel, including overnight stays.

Responsibilities

What You'll Be Doing

The Paediatric Speech Pathologist will

  • Provide health and development check screening services aligned with the Brighter Beginnings Initiative: a collaboration between NSW Health and NSW Department of Education to provide early identification, and early intervention pathways to children in the year before school.
  • Provide high quality evidence based clinical speech therapy assessment and therapy to children aged 4 and above on community health waiting lists.
  • The Paediatric Speech Pathologist will also be responsible for supporting and developing skills and knowledge in paediatrics for generalist Speech Pathologists in the district.
Selection Criteria
  • Tertiary degree in speech pathology (or equivalent) with eligibility for practicing membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Demonstrated, recent and relevant experience in paediatric clinical practice, including, assessment and intervention with preschool and school aged children, group work skills, and case management in the community health setting.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including collaborative stakeholder consultation.
  • Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills, time management and computer literacy, and ability to analyse, interpret and implement evidence-based practice.
  • Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision to staff and/or students.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of paediatric education sessions to a variety of groups.
  • Demonstrated experience participating in the planning, implementation and evaluation of local service delivery incorporating the quality improvement process and evidence-based practice.
  • Current unrestricted drivers' licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires, which may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
