Job summary

South Australia Police (SAPOL) invites applications for a Senior Solicitor in the Advice and Litigation Section of the Legal Services Branch. The role provides independent legal advice to the Commissioner, ELT and SAPOL members across diverse practice areas including employment, disciplinary matters, statutory interpretation and coronial inquests.

You will oversee legal files, supervise junior lawyers, and contribute to civil claims management.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor with eligibility to practice in Australia.
• Experience in one or more SAPOL practice areas is highly desirable.
• Experience in employment law or litigation will be well regarded.

Job description

A rare opportunity has arisen for a Senior Solicitor to join the Advice and Litigation Section of the Legal Services Branch of South Australia Police (SAPOL).

The Advice and Litigation Section is responsible for the provision of independent legal advice to the Commissioner, Executive Leadership Team members and SAPOL members, across several practice areas including in: employment and disciplinary matters, statutory interpretation, information release; MOUs and commercial arrangements; administrative decisions; coronial inquests, and police powers and operations, including counter-terrorism legislation. The section is also responsible for the management of civil claims and interpleader actions, including referrals to the Crown Solicitor's Office and the South Australian Government Financing Authority.

The Senior Solicitor is accountable to the Managing Solicitor for the provision of legal advice and management of legal files, and provides support and professional supervision of junior legal staff within the team. Candidates with experience in one of more of the practice areas listed above are encouraged to apply. Applicants with experience in employment law or litigation will be well regarded.

The incumbent must hold a current Australian work eligibility status and will be subject to a criminal history check.

The incumbent may be assigned to other duties at this remuneration level or equivalent.

Some out of hours work and intra/interstate travel may be required.

The incumbent is required to participate in SAPOL's iEngage program.

Salary

LE4 - $138,016 - $149,885 per annum.
