Primary duties: Design, develop, integrate, and maintain high-performance software systems supporting space telescope and laser operations, ensuring reliable and efficient functionality through rigorous testing, system verification, and close collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain software systems supporting space telescope and laser operations
  • Deliver high-quality, reliable, and high-availability software solutions for mission-critical environments
  • Support system integration, verification, and validation within observatory and space systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across software, hardware, optical, and systems engineering
  • Implement and enhance DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and system automation
  • Perform troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis of complex software and system issues
  • Contribute to distributed processing and real-time systems
  • Develop and enhance visualisation tools and user interfaces for operational use
  • Ensure software meets the requirements of safety-critical systems
  • Support continuous improvement of software quality, performance, and engineering standards
Experience
  • A least 3 years' experience
  • Strong experience in C++ development on Windows and Linux platforms within complex engineering environments
  • Experience with Python or similar programming languages for system development, automation, and data processing
  • Proven experience applying software testing methodologies and frameworks, including unit, integration, and system-level testing
  • Experience developing and supporting high-availability, mission-critical software systems
  • Exposure to distributed processing and real-time systems, particularly in scientific or observatory environments
  • Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated deployment
  • Knowledge of safety-critical software and systems automation, including interaction with hardware or bespoke firmware
  • Experience contributing to visualisation tools, user interfaces, and data-driven applications (desirable)
  • Familiarity with space systems, astronomical observatories, or laser-based platforms (desirable)
Benefits
  • ongoing learning and development opportunities
  • flexible working hours
  • opportunities for further professional and career development
  • paid parental leave
