Job summary

Synthires is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Expert for a remote hourly contract to help advance AI-enabled software engineering capabilities. You will craft challenging tasks, build reference solutions, and rigorously evaluate AI-generated code with a focus on real-world relevance and quality.

Applicants should have 4+ years in senior or mid-senior roles, strong English communication, and a track record of designing large production systems.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience at a qualifying leading tech company, quantitative firm, financial institution, or high-growth tech company.
• Senior or mid-senior level experience depending on the employer.
• Strong proficiency in at least one major programming language (Python, Java, C++, Go, TS, Rust).
• Experience with system design, testing, debugging, code review, and large production codebases.
• Ability to evaluate code quality beyond tests passing.
• Excellent written English and ability to explain technical decisions clearly.
• Bachelor's degree from an English-speaking country.
• Attention to detail and willingness to incorporate feedback and follow evaluation standards.

Responsibilities

• Design realistic software engineering tasks involving feature development, debugging, code review, system design, and documentation.
• Explain task complexity, verification methods, and real-world relevance.
• Create reference solutions, tests, and evaluation criteria for correctness, architecture, maintainability, style, and scope.
• Evaluate AI-generated code and collaborate with AI coding agents to assess strengths and weaknesses.
• Provide consistent, evidence-based assessments of engineering quality.
• Incorporate reviewer feedback and refine submitted work.
