Job summary

Latitude IT in Melbourne or Sydney is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop and maintain high-quality scalable software across Python, C++ and React, contributing to a market-leading platform. You will own features from design to deployment, build automated tests, contribute to APIs and architecture, and mentor junior engineers in a collaborative culture.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience in Python and/or C++.
• Willingness and ability to work across both languages.
• Experience with React or other modern frontend technologies.
• Experience building and integrating APIs and complex software applications.
• Strong understanding of automated testing and software quality practices.
• Experience with CI/CD, source control and modern engineering practices.
• Knowledge of software architecture, clean code principles and designing systems for scale.
• Experience working in Agile environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Collaborative approach with mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high-quality, scalable and resilient software.
• Work primarily across Python and C++ backend technologies, with some frontend development using React.
• Contribute across multiple interconnected products and APIs.
• Take ownership of work from initial design through to deployment and production support.
• Build quality into the development process through automated testing and strong engineering practices.
• Contribute to application architecture, clean code and scalable technical solutions.
• Work closely with product, requirements, support and other engineering teams.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues.
• Improve engineering processes by identifying opportunities for automation and reducing manual effort.
• Mentor and support less-experienced engineers within the team.
• Contribute to a highly collaborative, knowledge-sharing engineering culture.
