MPAU Technology in Melbourne’s Hawthorn East is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and support RTU software for water automation and control systems. You will own end-to-end software solutions and mentor engineers.
You will apply embedded C and Python on ARM-based platforms, work with Linux and real-time environments, and use Modbus/TCP and other industrial protocols in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
This is a Senior Software Engineer role responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) software used in water automation and control systems, with a strong focus on Embedded C, Python, Linux, ARM, and industrial communication protocols. The position offers end-to-end ownership of software solutions, customer-facing problem solving, and opportunities to mentor engineers.

Design, develop, test, maintain, and support RTU software solutions.
Analyse customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Participate in software planning, architecture, design reviews, and code reviews.
Troubleshoot and resolve field issues relating to software configuration, deployment, and operation.
Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated hardware and software solutions.
Support customers, installers, and technical teams with software-related investigations and problem resolution.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives, technical documentation, and engineering best practices.
Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge sharing across the team
Degree or diploma in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline.
7+ years' professional software development experience.
Strong programming expertise in C and experience with Python.
Embedded software development experience.
Linux and POSIX development experience.
Experience developing for ARM-based embedded platforms.
Knowledge of real-time operating environments.
Experience with TCP/IP, UDP, multithreading, inter-process communication, and synchronisation concepts.
Familiarity with serial communications protocols such as RS232, RS485, and Modbus.
Experience using Git and Agile software development methodologies.
