Job summary

Light & Wonder is seeking a senior game software engineer in Sydney to design, implement, and deliver high-quality game systems. The role blends hands-on development with software architecture guidance and mentorship within a collaborative engineering team.

You will work on core engine components, contribute to game design, and help enforce coding standards while driving timely delivery and robust, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in C# and TypeScript with strong programming skills.
  • Experience with Unity or Godot game engines and game development.
  • Minimum 4+ years programming experience and 5+ years in a software team.
  • Experience with build automation, CI, unit tests, and configuration management.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver high-quality game software components.
  • Architect key systems and guide software architecture with peers.
  • Mentor teammates and promote coding standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with engineers to implement robust game features.
  • Hands-on development and design activities across projects.
  • Ensure timely delivery and maintain thorough documentation.

Job description

Position Summary

The purpose of the role is to design, develop, and deliver high-quality and timely game products. It also includes hands‑on development and design activities. The role is responsible for architecting and implementing critical software components and games. It requires working closely with other engineers to provide guidance and support on software architecture. This position must demonstrate a high degree of initiative and is accountable for the thorough implementation of all tasks assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Utilizes technical knowledge to write and complete software tasks and projects
  • Researches new technologies and incorporates them into new systems and products
  • Takes initiative in leading projects, delegating responsibilities, and collaborating with others
  • Tests, integrates, writes, troubleshoots, and debugs software applications
  • Responsible for the architecture and implementation of critical software components and games; uses company standards and applies design principles and patterns to develop robust software
  • Works closely with other engineers to provide guidance and assistance in the areas of software architecture, coding standards, and system‑related issues
  • Acts as team mentor in a multi‑person development team
  • Develop strong knowledge of Light & Wonder development processes
Qualification Requirements:

Training and/or Experience:

  • Highly organized and strong ability to prioritize work
  • Proficient in programming languages C# / TypeScript
  • Working knowledge of Unity / Godot game engine
  • Ability to work with technical correspondence
  • 4+ years of gaming development experience
  • High level of interest in the gaming industry
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a software development team
  • 5+ years of experience with build automation, continuous integration, unit testing, change management, and configuration management
  • 5+ years of experience with software methodologies

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent C# or TypeScript programming skills
  • Minimum 4+ years programming experience
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Full Software Development Lifecycle experience, including writing appropriate documentation for each stage
  • Strong working knowledge of operating systems
  • Configuration management experience (ie have previously used tools such as Perforce/GitHub).
  • Strong working knowledge of development/modeling tools
  • Enjoy working in a creative environment

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science, preferably BSEE, BSCE, BSEET, or BSCS, or equivalent experience
