Job summary

Littlepay, a growing fintech in Melbourne, seeks an experienced backend engineer for its Product Engineering team working on high‑performance transaction processing systems.

You will design, build, and operate features across an omni‑channel payments platform, collaborating with engineers, product managers, and analysts to ship safe, reliable releases in an agile setting.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with backend fundamentals.
  • Experience building micro-services and serverless architectures.
  • Professional experience with AWS cloud services and related tools.
  • RESTful API experience.
  • CI/CD practices experience.
  • Asynchronous event-driven systems experience.
  • Interest in cryptographic algorithms and transaction security.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team growth.

About the opportunity

You’ll join a Product Engineering team working on Littlepay’s high‑performance transaction processing systems.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Designing, building, maintaining and operating features across our omni-channel payments platform.
  • Collaborating closely with engineers, product managers, and business analysts to turn problems into safe, reliable releases.
  • Owning outcomes end‑to‑end: understanding the problem, shaping the solution, shipping it safely, and improving it based on what we learn in production.

Technology you will work with

From a technology standpoint, you will work with tools such as:

  • Java, Spring, Go, and Node.js
  • AWS (ECS, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, SQS, SAM, CloudFormation, S3, API Gateway)
  • Open source tooling and modern engineering practices
You are likely a match if you have:
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend fundamentals.
  • Extensive experience in building micro‑services and server‑less architectures
  • Professional experience with AWS cloud services and related tools
  • RESTful API experience
  • Professional experience in CI/CD practices
  • Asynchronous event‑driven systems experience
  • An interest or experience in cryptographic algorithms and transaction security
  • Have proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • A willingness to plan, learn, fail, and try again
  • Genuine curiosity, and a proactive and self‑motivated approach to learning
  • The ability to comprehend, co‑ordinate, and communicate clearly and effectively on a wide range of issues with colleagues, both technical and non‑technical
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team growth.
