Job summary

etrainu is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead design and implementation of scalable systems within a product engineering team. You will drive projects from concept to delivery, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to maintain high engineering standards.

You will design architectures for medium-to-large features, ensure non-functional requirements are met, and own production readiness responsibilities including monitoring and incident response.

The role and responsibilities

As a Senior Software Engineer, you lead the design and implementation of complex, scalable systems within a product engineering team of full-stack engineers, product designers and technical stakeholders. You make high-impact technical decisions and drive projects from concept to delivery with minimal oversight, and you mentor the engineers around you.

Responsibilities will include:

• Lead solution design for medium-to-large features — frame the problem, choose an approach, and drive it through review.
• Design the architecture for projects within your team's scope, weighing trade-offs and non-functional requirements such as scalability, security, performance and cost.
• Translate ambiguous product or business problems into clear technical plans, and make sound decisions with incomplete information.
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and set a high bar in code review for correctness, design and maintainability.
• Own features and systems from concept through delivery, maintenance and production support — including monitoring, alerting and incident response.
• Improve the team's engineering practices across CI/CD, automation, security, testing and tech-debt management.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, drive knowledge sharing, and help shape team standards and engineering culture.

Experience we are looking for

• 5 – 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with deep expertise in engineering principles, architecture and system-level thinking.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful micro-service architectures using serverless and containerised cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with Relational and No-SQL (preferably MongoDB) databases, and with event-driven and streaming architectures.
• Strong devops practices and mindset — version control, CI/CD pipelines, automation and secure engineering practices.
• Practical use of AI-enabled engineering practices and agentic tooling, with clear attention to quality, safety and judgement in how it is applied.
• Proven examples of leading medium-sized and complex projects from concept to delivery with minimal oversight.
• Experience mentoring engineers and working in a B2B SaaS or customer-facing product environment.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or proven relevant experience.
