Long Resources Ltd. is seeking a Senior Site Reliability & Backend Engineer to join our cloud platform team in Australia (Sydney or Melbourne preferred).

This six-month contract role combines software engineering, production support, automation, and distributed systems problem-solving to operate a mission-critical cloud provisioning platform. Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience supporting production systems.
• Strong Java and Spring Boot experience.
• Experience building and supporting REST APIs and microservices.
• Strong AWS experience including Step Functions, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB.
• Proven production troubleshooting using logs, metrics, dashboards, and monitoring tools.
• Experience performing root cause analysis and incident resolution.
• Strong scripting and automation capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve production issues across distributed services and cloud infrastructure.
• Diagnose failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
• Support critical provisioning workflows and customer lifecycle operations.
• Develop tools and automation that reduce manual intervention and improve operational efficiency.
• Build and enhance Java-based backend services and APIs.
• Improve monitoring, reporting, dashboards, runbooks, and operational processes.
• Drive resolution of complex technical incidents by gathering evidence, analysing logs, identifying impact, and proposing solutions.
• Collaborate closely with engineering and platform teams to improve system reliability and scalability.

We're looking for a hands-on Senior Site Reliability & Backend Engineer to help operate, troubleshoot, and improve a mission-critical cloud provisioning platform. This role combines software engineering, production support, automation, and distributed systems problem-solving, making it ideal for engineers who enjoy owning complex systems and driving operational excellence.

You'll be working on a platform responsible for the activation, suspension, lifecycle management, and retirement of cloud-based customer environments. Your work will directly improve reliability, reduce operational overhead, and enhance the customer experience.

• Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience building and supporting REST APIs and microservices.
• Strong AWS experience, including:

• DynamoDB
• Proven production troubleshooting expertise using logs, metrics, dashboards, and monitoring tools.
• Experience performing root cause analysis and incident resolution.
• Strong scripting and automation capabilities.
