Job summary

Proyacht on the Gold Coast seeks a senior shipwright/boat builder to perform varied craft across luxury yachts and recreational vessels. You’ll lead structural repairs, joinery, teak decking, varnishing and high-quality finishing, working closely with engineers and tradesmen.

The ideal candidate has substantial post-qualification marine construction experience, can work independently, and consistently delivers exceptional workmanship with professional client respect.

Qualifications

• Recognised trade qualification in shipwright/boat building or equivalent.
• Substantial post-qualification experience in marine construction, repairs or refits.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent workmanship and attention to detail.

Job description

You will undertake varied shipwright and boat-building work across luxury motor yachts and recreational craft. Projects range from detailed repairs and precision finishing to substantial refits and structural work. This is a senior, hands-on position for an accomplished tradesperson who can work independently, solve complex problems and consistently deliver an exceptional standard of workmanship.

Key responsibilities

Structural timber and composite repairs

Interior and exterior marine joinery

Teak decking, repairs and detailing

Varnishing and high-quality timber finishing

Fibreglass, gelcoat and composite repairs

Deck hardware installation and modification

Vessel repairs, alterations and refit work

Diagnosing problems and developing practical repair solutions

Working alongside marine engineers, fabricators, and other specialist trades

About you

A recognised Shipwright, Boat Builder or equivalent trade qualification

Substantial post-qualification experience in marine construction, repairs or refits

The ability to work independently and efficiently, with minimal supervision

Excellent workmanship and exceptional attention to detail

Strong diagnostic, planning and practical problem-solving skills

Experience working carefully on high-value vessels

A professional attitude and respect for clients, vessels and colleagues

Proven reliability, organisation and time-management skills

Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a close-knit team

Your own hand tools befitting your trade, and a current driver licence
