Job summary

Melbourne Pathology seeks a highly experienced Genetic Scientist to lead the Molecular Genetics and Genomics department in Melbourne. The role involves reproductive carrier screening, germline and somatic testing, sample prep, assay validation, analysis and reporting, and team leadership.

The position is full-time with a strong emphasis on accuracy, quality, and ongoing professional development in a state-of-the-art genomics facility, moving to Docklands in 2027.

Qualifications

• BAppSc or equivalent with genetics major. Masters degree is well-regarded.
• Significant experience in a NATA-accredited clinical laboratory.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement genomic testing procedures.
• Proven ability to perform genetic analysis and clinical reporting.
• Commitment to continuing education and new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead molecular genetics and genomics testing at Melbourne Pathology.
• Perform reproductive carrier screening and establish germline and somatic genomic testing.
• Handle sample prep, assay validation, data analysis and reporting.
• Teach and lead a team of scientists in a high-quality lab.
• Maintain protocols in line with NATA/NPAAC/ISO requirements.
