Job description

Senior Safety Advisor - Systems and Governence

The Company

Our client is delivering one of the most significant energy and infrastructure projects in the country. The project is a nationally important transmission investment that will strengthen energy security, support the move to renewable generation and shape Australia's energy future for decades.

The organisation is purpose-driven and growing quickly. It puts real weight on a strong, proactive safety culture across its own people, its project teams and its contractor partners.

The Opportunity
This is a 3-month contract with possible extension. You'll help strengthen the safety systems that underpin a complex, high-profile infrastructure program.

You'll own the frameworks that keep people safe: the Safety Management System, procedures, training, reporting and assurance. You'll also stay close to the work, giving practical advice to project teams, leaders and contractors.
You'll have the chance to make a visible impact early. That means turning safety data into insight, making systems simpler and more effective, and helping build a culture where safety is led from the front.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain and continuously improve the Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Review and update safety procedures, standards, forms and guidance documents
  • Design, develop and maintain safety training, induction and competency programs
  • Manage safety reporting systems, dashboards and performance metrics
  • Analyse safety data, trends and leading indicators to identify improvement opportunities
  • Coordinate incident, hazard and corrective action reporting processes
  • Maintain key safety documentation, registers and records
  • Support safety assurance activities
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen safety performance and culture
  • Support the implementation of safety initiatives across projects and business functions
  • Provide practical safety advice and support to project teams, leaders and contractors
  • Promote workforce engagement through coaching, communication and proactive safety leadership
About You
  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, WHS or a related discipline
  • Solid experience in a safety systems, HSE advisory or safety management role, ideally within major infrastructure, energy, construction or utilities
  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining a Safety Management System aligned with ISO 45001 and Australian WHS legislation
  • Proven ability to write clear, practical procedures, standards and guidance material
  • Experience designing and delivering safety training, inductions and competency frameworks
  • Strong analytical skills, with confidence building dashboards, reporting on performance and interpreting leading and lagging indicators
  • Working knowledge of incident investigation, hazard management and corrective action processes
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, and comfortable coaching and engaging people at all levels, from site crews to senior leaders
  • Highly organised, detail-focused and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced project environment
  • Available at short notice for a 3-month contract, with flexibility for a possible extension
  • Full Australian working rights

Experience on large-scale construction projects will be well regarded. So will familiarity with safety management software platforms and exposure to contractor safety management.
