Job summary

WSP is seeking a Rolling Stock Engineer to join our Western Australia Rail team, delivering complex passenger and freight rolling stock projects across the asset lifecycle. This role offers technical leadership and trusted guidance on Australia's significant rail programs.

You will lead engineering activities, review designs, coordinate with clients and suppliers, and ensure safe, reliable rolling stock solutions that meet performance targets and project timelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic or related Engineering.
• 3–10+ years of rolling stock engineering experience.
• Knowledge of braking systems, bogies, traction equipment, HVAC, auxiliary systems and train control technologies.
• Familiarity with Australian and international rail standards.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• CPEng status or commitment to chartership is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Lead rolling stock engineering activities across the asset lifecycle, including design, manufacture, testing, commissioning, maintenance, upgrades and service introduction.
• Provide technical assurance through the review and endorsement of engineering designs, modifications and system integration solutions.
• Work closely with clients, operators, maintainers, manufacturers and project stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.
• Manage engineering work packages, including scope, programme, risk and budget considerations.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces to ensure safe, reliable and fit-for-purpose rolling stock solutions.
• Contribute technical expertise across asset management, assurance, maintenance strategies, performance optimisation and lifecycle planning.
