Job summary

Ornata, based in Melbourne, is building the remote operations platform for agriculture. We design autonomous tractors and edge devices to operate safely in the field.

As Senior Robotics Software Engineer, you will own embedded software, implement perception, localisation, and control, and work with hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing; reporting to the CTO. This role is located in Richmond with access to live hardware and field deployments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in embedded systems, robotics, or autonomous platforms.
• Strong C/C++ skills, including on microcontrollers, with proficiency in Python.
• Deep understanding of localization, path planning, and control theory.
• Experience building safety‑critical or fault‑tolerant systems, and thinking about failure modes, redundancy, and recovery.
• Experience with HIL testing and automated validation frameworks.
• Comfort with Linux‑based edge devices and distributed system communication.
• Experience developing perception systems using LiDAR and/or camera data, including sensor fusion.
• Hold a degree in Robotics, Computer, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design and own embedded and edge software for autonomous tractors and field use.
• Collaborate with operators and engineers to validate software in real-world conditions.
• Implement safety features, fault-tolerance, and deterministic behavior for field deployments.
• Develop perception, localization, and control algorithms for varied terrain.
• Build and maintain test frameworks including HIL and simulation-based validation.
• Ensure robust telemetry, logging, and remote updates for field deployments.
