Job summary

Ornata is building the remote operations platform for agriculture in Melbourne, Australia. We are seeking a Senior Robotics Software Engineer to own embedded and edge software, ensuring safe, reliable operation of autonomous tractors in the field.

You will work closely with operators and engineers to translate field observations into robust, fault-tolerant software. This hands‑on role focuses on safety, performance, and observability across outdoor environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in embedded/robotics/autonomous platforms.
• Strong C/C++ on microcontrollers; Python proficiency.
• Deep knowledge of localisation and path planning.
• Experience with safety-critical or fault-tolerant systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement tractor safety systems — failsafes and redundancy strategies.
• Develop high‑reliability software for edge devices and microcontrollers.
• Contribute to localisation, path planning, and control systems for varied terrain.
• Design and implement perception pipelines using LiDAR/cameras and sensor fusion.
• Build robust communication between field hardware and cloud services.
• Lead tests including HIL, unit, and integration tests for real sensors/actuators.
• Implement logging, telemetry, and on‑device diagnostics for safe deployment.
