Job summary

Star Pharmacy Group is seeking an experienced Senior Retail Buyer to lead allocated product categories, drive strategic supplier negotiations, and execute high-performing catalogue cycles for a national pharmacy network.

You will own category strategy, manage supplier terms, run monthly catalogue campaigns, and analyse sales data to optimise stock and margins, with hybrid flexibility and opportunities across our 65+ Australian locations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years buying experience in Retail or Pharmacy/Health-FMCG
• Strong analytical mindset with advanced Excel skills
• Proven ability to build joint business plans with suppliers and negotiate terms
• Confident, agile decision-maker with clear communication
• Team-first with adaptability in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Category & Strategy Ownership: lead annual plans, data-based range reviews, manage lifecycle from launch to deletion
• Supplier & Trading Negotiations: lead terms, rebates, cost prices, and promotional funding
• Promotional & Catalogue Execution: manage monthly campaigns from deal collection to proofing and store allocations
• Data & Insights: use sales reports and BI tools to track trends and make category recommendations
• Collaborative Support: work with Marketing and Store Operations and assist across other areas when needed

What You’ll Do

Category & Strategy Ownership: Execute annual department plans, conduct data-based range reviews, and manage product lifecycles from launch to deletion to optimise stock turn.

Supplier & Trading Negotiations: Lead negotiations on trading terms, rebates, cost prices, and promotional funding to maximise return on investment.

Promotional & Catalogue Execution: Manage monthly catalogue campaigns from supplier deal collection to proofing (ensuring TGA compliance) and timely store allocations.

Data & Insights: Utilise sales reports and BI tools to track market trends, monitor competitor pricing, and present actionable category recommendations.

Collaborative Support: Work closely with Marketing and Store Operations, and willingly assist across other Support Office areas when needed to drive team success.

What You’ll Bring

5+ Years Buying Experience: Proven track record as a Retail Buyer or Category Manager managing a category P&L—experience in Pharmacy, Health, FMCG, or Grocery is highly preferred.

Strong Analytical & Excel Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency with demonstrated ability to analyse large datasets, interpret trends, and execute accurate allocations.

Supplier Relationship & Negotiation Excellence: Outstanding communication skills with a proven ability to build joint business plans and negotiate strong commercial terms.

Confidence & Agility: The confidence to make fast, informed decisions independently, while maintaining strong communication to keep the broader team aligned.

Team-First & Adaptable Mindset: A proactive attitude, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
