Job summary

4AI Systems is a leading developer of multi-sensor AI perception systems for rail. We seek a Systems Safety Engineer to provide specialist safety assurance across projects, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory approvals in safety-critical rail environments.

The role is based in Warabrook, Newcastle NSW, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. You will collaborate with software, hardware and project teams to assess safety, develop hazard analyses, and maintain safety

Qualifications

• Experience applying Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) and other safety analysis techniques.
• Strong understanding of functional safety lifecycles and assurance processes.
• Familiarity with safety standards such as IEC 61508, EN 50126, EN 50129, EN 50716.
• Foundational experience with safety analysis and risk mitigation techniques (STPA, FMEA, FTA).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide safety assurance across the system lifecycle for multiple projects.
• Evaluate safety impacts of software and hardware changes.
• Contribute to hazard analyses and safety documentation (plans, cases, reports).
• Support certification activities and safety audits.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to implement safety requirements.
