Job summary

4AI Systems is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to provide specialist software and system safety assurance across rail projects. The role supports certification and regulatory activities in safety-critical environments and is based in Warabrook, Newcastle NSW.

You will develop safety documentation, perform hazard analyses and contribute to safety case reviews. The role requires experience with FHA and safety analyses, knowledge of IEC/EN standards, and strong analytical and communication

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in engineering, mathematics or related discipline.
• Experience applying FHA and other safety analysis techniques.
• Understanding of functional safety lifecycles, safety integrity levels and assurance processes.
• Experience with IEC 61508, EN 50126, EN 50129, EN 50716 or equivalent.
• Experience with STPA, FMEA and FTA techniques.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Clear written and verbal communication for stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Provide safety assurance across the system lifecycle and across projects.
• Evaluate ECPs, Change Notices, Deficiency Reports and safety-related deviations.
• Conduct FHA for new or changed software functionality and assess failures.
• Input into SSHA, SHA and OSHA analyses.
• Assess safety impacts of software and system changes.
• Conduct FSA and produce Safety Assurance Statements/Reports.
• Develop, review and maintain safety documentation (plans, cases, reports).
• Ensure alignment between certification baselines, analyses, and the Safety Case; support testing and evidence generation.
• Participate in internal and external safety audits and assessments.
• Collaborate with engineering to implement safety requirements and improve safety practices.
