Job summary

Hitachi Rail is seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to join our Sydney team. You will lead the hardware design for rail infrastructure, ensuring the interfaces, installation constraints, and safety requirements are met across the programme.

The role requires hands-on development of rack layouts, cable routing, power distribution, and EMI/EMC considerations, with a focus on delivering installation-ready engineering documentation while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

Proven experience in hardware design within rail or similar infrastructure.
Strong knowledge of cabling, racks, installation, and power distribution.
Familiar with earthing, bonding, EMI/EMC in physical design.
Experience producing detailed installation-ready engineering documents.
Ability to translate multi-discipline requirements into hardware designs.
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.

Responsibilities

Develop rack layouts and equipment configurations.
Define cable routing across stations, trackside, tunnel, depot, and facilities.
Design fibre and copper cable terminations with physical interface requirements.
Establish power supply requirements and distribution.
Incorporate thermal and heat load constraints.
Design earthing and bonding arrangements.
Consider EMI/EMC in physical design including segregation and routing.
Define equipment mounting solutions (racks, desks, walls, video walls).
Specify cable containment and installation constraints.
