Job summary

Hitachi Rail STS Australia Pty Ltd in Sydney seeks a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to lead hardware design for rail infrastructure, defining interfaces, rack layouts, cabling, power distribution and grounding with EMI/EMC considerations, ensuring installation-ready documentation.

Based in Sydney, the role requires strong experience in rail hardware design, translating multi-disciplinary requirements into coherent hardware solutions while maintaining technical continuity across the programme.

Qualifications

• Proven hardware design experience in rail or comparable infrastructure environments.
• Strong knowledge of cabling systems, rack layouts, equipment installation and power distribution.
• Understanding of earthing, bonding and EMI/EMC in physical design.
• Experience producing detailed installation-ready engineering design documentation.
• Ability to translate multi-disciplinary subsystem requirements into coherent hardware designs.

Responsibilities

• Design and specification of physical hardware components based on subsystem inputs.
• Develop rack layouts and equipment configurations with space, access and maintainability in mind.
• Define cable routing approaches across stations, trackside, tunnel, depot and facility environments.
• Design fibre and copper cable terminations with physical interface requirements.
• Establish power supply requirements including load allocation and distribution.
• Incorporate thermal and heat load constraints into hardware configurations.
• Design earthing and bonding arrangements per project requirements.
• Apply EMI/EMC principles in physical design including routing and segregation.
• Specify equipment mounting solutions across racks, desks, walls and specialist installations.
• Specify cable containment and installation constraints where applicable.
