Job summary

GHD is seeking a Senior Protection Engineer in Australia to join the Electrical Delivery team. You will lead protection settings work, develop substation designs and collaborate with clients, utilities and partners to deliver reliable, lower-carbon power solutions.

You will mentor graduates, drive tender activities and deliver across the project lifecycle, balancing technical excellence with effective teamwork. This role supports hybrid work arrangements in Western Australia.

Qualifications

• Substantial protection engineering experience delivering projects for power utilities or similar clients.
• Experience preparing protection settings, relay settings files and substation secondary designs.
• Strong power system modelling skills using DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP or equivalent software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare protection settings calculations and relay settings files.
• Prepare and review substation secondary designs, technical reports, specifications and tender documentation.
• Define technical requirements during tendering and project delivery with clients and contractors.
• Provide technical and construction support throughout the project lifecycle.
• Scope electrical work and contribute to tenders and proposals.
• Lead a small team independently, allocating and delegating project work to support delivery.
• Mentor graduate engineers to build capability and confidence.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers across GHD offices to pursue project opportunities.
• Review design drawings, protection settings and reports to ensure quality.
