Job summary

Downer is seeking a Senior Protection & Control (P&C) Technician to lead testing and commissioning of HV substations across NSW. You will provide technical support, guidance and mentoring through feasibility, estimating, completion and commissioning phases of projects.

Ideal candidates will have an Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering / Power Systems, 10+ years HV protection experience, and familiarity with AS/NZS standards.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering / Power Systems is required.
  • Current A Grade Electrical Licence is desirable.
  • Minimum of 10 years of HV protection and control testing experience.
  • Compliance with TransGrid training and authority requirements for field testing and commissioning.
  • Proven testing and commissioning experience within Transmission switchyards and substations.
  • Familiarity with Australian electrical standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS 2067).
  • Strong computer literacy and technical documentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a site-based team.
  • Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Inspection and Test Plans and Commissioning Plans for projects.
  • Provide proactive support and guidance to Project Managers, Construction Managers, Site Supervisors and other Testers during delivery phases.
  • Ensure all Test procedures are followed and recorded.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation for bids and tenders.
  • Provide budgetary targets to relevant stakeholders.
  • Mentor new employees as needed.
  • Contribute to development of trainees and graduates.

The Opportunity

Join a high‑performing team delivering essential power infrastructure across NSW. As a Senior Protection & Control (P&C) Technician, you'll play a key role in the testing and commissioning of high-voltage (HV) substations across NSW, including regional areas, Metro Sydney, and surrounding regions. As the successful applicant, you will provide the required technical support, advice and mentoring on all testing and commissioning related matters during feasibility, estimating, completion, and commissioning phases of project lifecycles. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being hands on, solving technical problems, and mentoring the next generation of talent.

Key Responsibilities

About You
