Job summary

Randstad in Melbourne is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead a major Bulk Earthworks package for North East Link Tunnels. This four-month contract offers immediate start and an opportunity to drive critical milestones on a Tier 1 infrastructure program.

The role requires at least 5 years’ experience on major road projects in Australia, a Civil Engineering degree, and strong knowledge of VicRoads specs. You will manage costs, supervise subcontractors, and coordinate with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience as a Senior Project Engineer on major road infrastructure in Australia.
• Strong knowledge of VicRoads specifications and standards for earthworks and pavement construction.
• Proven ability to manage large civil work packages within a Tier 1 project framework.
• Valid Australian work rights and White Card.

Responsibilities

• Manage bulk earthworks programs, ensuring alignment with specifications and geotechnical requirements.
• Coordinate delivery of major road pavements from sub-grade to final surfacing.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight for subcontractors to meet schedules and quality.
• Review and approve work method statements and quality documentation for heavy civil work.
• Identify and resolve design or site challenges to minimise delays.
• Perform financial administration including cost tracking and variations.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to oversee a major Bulk Earthworks package delivering critical approach infrastructure for the North East Link Tunnels.

The Role

This role supports senior delivery teams currently in a critical phase of delivery. Key responsibilities include:

• Manage the execution of bulk earthworks programs, ensuring all cut and fill operations align with technical specifications and geotechnical requirements.
• Coordinate the delivery of major road pavements, from sub-grade preparation through to final surfacing and asphalt works.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight for subcontractors to ensure production schedules and quality benchmarks are met.
• Review and approve work method statements and quality documentation specific to heavy civil work packages.
• Identify and resolve technical design or site-based challenges to minimise delays in project timelines.
• Perform financial administration for assigned packages, including cost tracking, variations, and monthly progress reporting.
• Interface with project stakeholders and relevant authorities to ensure compliance with road-opening permits and interface protocols.

What You’ll Bring

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a recognised equivalent qualification.
• Demonstrated experience as a Senior Project Engineer on major road infrastructure projects within Victoria.
• Comprehensive understanding of VicRoads specifications and standards related to earthworks and pavement construction.
• Proven ability to manage large civil work packages within a Tier 1 project framework.
• Strong commercial acumen and experience managing project costs and variations.
• Valid Australian work rights and a current Construction Induction (White Card).
