Job summary

• Strong leadership capability with ability to motivate and influence teams.

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end delivery of asphalt and road construction projects.
• Lead project planning, contract administration, risk management and project controls.
• Monitor project performance, budgets and forecasts, implementing corrective actions.
• Prepare and manage tenders, progress claims and project reporting.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Mentor and support project teams to achieve operational excellence.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across projects.
• Drive a Zero Harm culture across project teams, subcontractors and suppliers.

Downer is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our high-performing team and play a key role in delivering complex asphalt and road construction projects across the region. Based out of Bathurst, this is an exciting opportunity for an engineering professional who is passionate about safety, project excellence, building strong client relationships, and driving successful project outcomes.

This role will be responsible for the delivery of asphalt and road infrastructure projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

You will oversee projects from tender handover through to closeout while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee the end-to-end delivery of asphalt and road construction projects.

ABOUT YOU

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Significant experience (7+ years) within asphalt, spray seal, road construction or a related infrastructure environment.
• Proven project engineering and project management experience.
• Strong commercial acumen, including budgeting, cost control and financial management.
• Demonstrated experience in contract management and tender preparation.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
• Strong leadership capability with the ability to motivate and influence teams.
• Well-developed communication, planning and organisational skills.
