Job summary

Downer is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Townsville team, offering exposure across spray seal, asphalt and civil road construction. This role provides a unique opportunity to learn all aspects of our operations and contribute to a driven, enthusiastic team.

The ideal candidate will have a Civil Engineering qualification with at least 2 years’ related experience, strong communication, planning and cost-management skills, and a proactive approach to safety and problem solving.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline is required.
• Minimum 2 years’ exposure in bituminous/asphalt surfacing or civil road construction/maintenance.
• Strong communication skills and ability to direct crew and liaise with customers.
• Proven planning, organising and time management capability.
• Commercial awareness including financial administration and project costing advantageous.
• Proven experience identifying opportunities, improvements and solutions.
• Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and manage travel when required.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and promoting a Zero Harm culture.

This is a unique opportunity for a motivated Engineer to learn all aspects of our operations and work within a driven and enthusiastic team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the delivery of allocated projects to agreed time, cost, quality and safety objectives.
• Monitor project cost, program, safety and commercial performance.
• Assist with risk identification, issue resolution and opportunity realisation.
• Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Project Engineers and Commercial teams.
• Participate in project meetings and prepare reports and presentations as required.
• Contribute to tendering, estimating and business development activities when required.
• Build, maintain and grow strong client and stakeholder relationships.
• Actively lead and promote a Zero Harm safety culture across all activities.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

• Tertiary Qualifications in Civil Engineering or related disciplines.
• Minimum 2 years exposure in the bituminous or asphalt surfacing, civil road construction or road maintenance ideal.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear direction to crew members and effectively liaise with customers.
• Successful track record with planning, organising and time management.
• Commercial skills and understanding of financial administration and project costing advantageous.
• Proven experience in identifying opportunities; improvements and solutions.
• Demonstrated ability with building relationships with key stakeholders.
• Ability to be flexible with travel when required.
• Enthusiasm with an aptitude for seeking further opportunities to make a significant contribution.
