Job summary

Downer is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our Bathurst team, delivering complex asphalt and road construction projects across the region. You will oversee projects from tender handover through to closeout while maintaining strong client relationships and driving continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in asphalt, spray seal, road construction or related infrastructure.
• Proven project engineering and project management experience.
• Strong commercial acumen including budgeting, cost control and financial management.
• Experience in contract management and tender preparation.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
• Strong leadership capability with ability to motivate and influence teams.
• Well-developed communication, planning and organisational skills.
• Commitment to safety, quality and environmental excellence.

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end delivery of asphalt and road construction projects.
• Lead project planning, contract administration, risk management and project controls.
• Monitor project performance, budgets and forecasts, implementing corrective actions.
• Prepare and manage tenders, progress claims and project reporting.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Mentor and support project teams to achieve operational excellence.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across projects.
• Drive a Zero Harm culture across project teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
