Job summary

LGT Wealth Management is seeking a Principal Engineer to set technical direction and strengthen how software is designed, built and run across Australia. You’ll work across the core wealth platform, leading with code, reviews and mentoring while ensuring secure, resilient systems.

Reporting to the CTO, you’ll align architecture with enterprise standards, tackle complex challenges, and collaborate with product and delivery teams to raise engineering quality and developer experience.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience setting technical direction across multiple teams as principal, staff or senior technical lead.
• Deep expertise in at least one modern programming language (C#/.NET, Java, TypeScript or Python).
• Strong distributed systems design across APIs, data models, performance and resilience.
• Hands-on cloud-native engineering with Azure and/or AWS (containers, serverless, IaC).
• Proven CI/CD, automated testing and modern delivery practices.
• Secure software engineering grounding with risk/quality balance.
• Ability to mentor and influence across teams and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Set and evolve engineering direction, standards and practices in line with enterprise architecture.
• Lead the design of complex systems and services, including APIs and data models.
• Stay hands-on by writing production-quality code and building prototypes.
• Build and improve the engineering paved road with templates and libraries.
• Raise engineering quality via code/design reviews and automated testing.
• Champion reliability with observability, SLOs and incident reviews.
• Embed secure-by-design and DevSecOps practices.
• Lead pragmatic modernisation and refactoring with low-risk migrations.
• Improve developer experience and delivery flow, include AI-assisted tooling.
• Turn target-state architecture into implementable designs with enterprise alignment.
• Provide technical due diligence on vendor platforms and enforce standards.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to hiring standards and culture.
• Advise CTO on options, risks and recommendations clearly.
