Job summary

CSIRO is seeking a Principal Power Systems Research Engineer to lead applied research and engineering across modelling, analysis, control and optimisation of power systems. You will translate complex research into practical tools for electricity networks and grid modernization.

You will work with network operators, government, universities and industry partners to deliver impactful outcomes, mentoring teams and shaping research directions for Australia’s energy transition.

Qualifications

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
Strong hands‑on experience in power system modelling, planning, operations and control.
Proven ability to lead multi‑partner projects and deliver impactful outcomes.
Experience with industry-grade simulation tools and programming
Proven ability to mentor researchers and engineers.

Responsibilities

Lead advanced power systems research across generation, transmission and distribution.
Develop practical tools and solutions for grid challenges.
Collaborate with industry, government and universities to deliver impact.
Set research direction and priorities for power systems programs.
Manage complex, multi‑disciplinary projects from concept to outcomes.
Provide trusted technical advice and influence stakeholders.
